Hahahaha, my dear friend "SurfRunner" caved in and started a blog today. I'm still not sure if I have the OK to link her actual name with her blog, but then again she titled her blog "Jog in Ocean" and cleverly pointed out that it is an anagram of her name. Because she works with all kinds of techie-geeky types, her anonymity is shot now anyway. I didn't actually believe that "Jog in Ocean" would spell out her name, but sure enough if you pick up a pen and paper, it totally works. Dude. "SurfRunner." Totally impressed. [Insert the jokes you love to make about how you, an engineer, can totally beat my ass down at Scrabble.] I know, I know already. Sheesh.
SurfRunner plans to write about her half-marathon training, and probably her triathalon training, and eventually probably her full marathon training. (Oy, I feel like such a schlub.) And she kicked off her first entry with wise insight about running: "It's a paradox. You have to speed up to slow down." Move over, Confucius!
In all seriousness, though, she makes an excellent point: that to unwind we have to unplug, and to slow down from the crazy world we live in, we have to go outside and, like, just be in that world.
Awwww, SurfRunner. I TOTALLY MISS YOU & YOU ROCK HARDCORE.
Anyway. You know I'll be checking on her marathon training progress . . . probably while I eat my bacon and cupcakes and homemade doughnuts. haha.

Wow, I feel SUPER special and totally welcome to the blog world. Thanks for dedicating a blog entry to me. =)
And just a note on meditation (I've read too many Zen Buddhism books, sorry) ... you can always be "present in the now" doing whatever you want. it doesn't have to be running. it can definitely be while you're eating donuts and bacon. ;)
BTW, while i'm at it. you might want to do a twist on that and eat bacon WITH donuts. This pretty famous place in Portland does it: http://www.voodoodoughnut.com/ . I've tried it, and let me tell you...as gross as it sounds, their maple bacon donut is awesome. It tastes like pancakes and bacon. Of course...this is off-training season food. ;)
Duuude. And this is why you are so awesome! Because while you don't necessary always want to be eating bacon and doughnuts (only off-season), you do not hold anyone else back from what they most desire. What a friend, what a friend.
That bacon doughnut sounds like my version of heaven. :)
xoxoxoxo,

Oooh! I just had that very doughnut the other week! Voodoo rocks...the magic is in the hole. They also have a fritter the size of my head that should only be eaten while watching gospel and sporting a home made perm rod afro. Long story.
Jessa: Intruigingly strange comment. Now we *all* want to hear the "long story."
