wintry mix or no...

Tonight I was to meet Wife, Luke, and Wife's friend Maureen at the Belasco Theater for Passing Strange, a new musical that has recently moved from the Public Theater to B'way. I was really excited to be leaving the house . . . and not be headed for The Container Store or Bed, Bath & Beyond, so I had resolved to dress up, now that my closet is finally unpacked. I had decided on my short black tutu skirt, a purple highnecked shirt, dangly pearly earrings, black tights, and leopard print heels.

And then I checked the weather.

"Wintry mix" = rain + snow = not my friend = bad idea to wear heels. (This woman feels my pain.) And for that matter, bad idea to wear skirt. Good idea to dress warmly and in fact not leave the house at all.

But fuck that. I was going. And I was wearing the outfit I picked. So I went and I wore. And I totally made it home to Brooklyn Heights by 1am without getting accosted (very long buttoned coat over very short little skirt) or eating it on the ice/snow/rain-slicked streets. Quite the accomplishment of the day, I'd say.

I'm no photographer, which will be obvious from these shots, but I sort of like them. They're . . . uh . . . "artsy." Yeah. My only regret is that my questionable photographer skills means you cannot see the full glory of this tutu skirt. It really is quite fantastic. :)

Mmmmmm, you went from the most fashion perfect climate--San Francisco/Bay Area--to a full 4-seasoned climate.

I remember when I first moved to the Bay Area from Ithaca, NY, and realized how just a slight chill to the air, enough for a lightweight sweater and a fantastic raincoat for fog-cooled nights, made it fun to wear winter weather gear. But not to an arctically ugly degree where in order to survive, you have to dress like the Michelin man. And no rain/snow means perfect, beautiful shoes.

You're bi-coastal in addition to being bi-candidate!
